Réserve Ornithologique du Tech
Réserve Ornithologique du Tech is 110 hectares of protected woodland, salt marsh and meadows stretching from the mainland to the coastline of the Arcachon Bassin. It is located in Le Teich, France.
There are well marked level trails and elevated wooden pathways. Some of the pathways are over water. There is an observation tower that offers great views. Along the trails are viewing shelters with benches and slots to view and photograph from.
We visited the parc in May on a wet day. We had a great time and were very happy to sit in the protected shelters. The one we sat in was on a pond so we were able to observe the ducks. Walking on one of the many pathways we saw a couple of European Storks. At first we didn’t know what they were but, as we got closer and were able to see the size of the birds and the size of the nest we looked at the chart that we picked up at the information desk to find out what they were. We were so excited since we had never seen a stork! There were babies in the nest which we could barely see sticking their little heads up for food. We continued walking down the trail until the thunder chased us away. I can’t wait to get back this spring to see what we may find.
The web site gives good information about when to visit including a chart of the best times of day to visit to see the birds. réserve-Ornithologique-du-tech.com.
You can take the train from Bordeaux to Le Teich and walk 15 minutes to the parc.
A bientôt,

Wow! What an amazing looking place. The storks. Infants and nest initially look similar to Ospreys.
