Reims-Gueux Circuit

When we get to travel out of My Imaginary French Village to the real French villages F1 racing is one of the things we enjoy. It may be attending a race modern or historic, going to museums, or as in this case finding old circuits.

Most people visit Reims for the champagne which we did visit the cellars and enjoyed drinking lots of it but visiting the Reims-Gueux circuit was definitely a highlight.

The circuit was first used in 1926 for the 2nd edition of the Grand Prix la Marne.
Between 1926-1969 Reims-Gueux was used for many motorports events including the French Grand Prix, and 12 hours of Reims. In 1950 the Formula 1 championship was held at the circuit. Formula 1 races were held at the circuit until 1966. Some of the greatest names of the sport raced here including Jim Clark, Bruce McClaren, Sterling Moss, and Peter Collins.

The circuit closed in 1972 but you can still see the remains. We found it pretty easy it’s about 8km from Reims in the village of Gueux. I highly recommend visiting race fan or not. Take a picnic like we did. It’s not hard to imagine Jimmy Clark driving by.

A bientôt,
Jane

  1. Wow!! Formula 1 has been my favorite sport since I was little. Jimmy Clark was an amazing racing driver of many types of cars. He drove brilliantly and effortlessly. Seeing the classic circuit, stands and pits memorializes the foundation of Formula 1. I have a reproduction pair of his driving gloves.

My Imaginary French Village includes a grand variety of France. Real Champagne from Reims like @VeuveClicquot and @Formula1 create a fantastic combination!

    À bientôt.
